How to read a norm
Basis
Carpet, built-up and floor area are different numbers; each regulation names one. Some cities set an area share instead of a count.
"Or part thereof"
Most norms round up: 101 sqm attracts the requirement for 200.
Visitor loading
Usually a percentage added on top of the requirement, stated in a note under the table.
Two-wheelers
Counted separately in most cities, sometimes as fractions of a car space.
Mechanical provision
Permitted in one clause, conditioned in another — sanction, share cap, height, fire.
National baseline
MoHUA Model Building Bye-Laws 2016 recommend 2 ECS per 100 sqm built-up; NBC 2016 sets 13.75 sqm minimum per car bay.
