What the regulation says

Hyderabad expresses the requirement as a percentage of total built-up area, not a count of bays. Parking may be provided in basements or cellars, stilts and upper floors; mechanical and multi-level systems are accepted where the parking plan shows the required area equivalence.

Conditions to design around

• The requirement is an AREA: GHMC column — residential 30%, commercial/business/hotels 40%, malls (> 4,000 sqm) and IT/ITES complexes 60%, multiplexes 60% of total built-up area. • Mechanical systems must demonstrate equivalent capacity; the area-per-car equivalence is agreed with GHMC at scrutiny — get it in writing. • Fire NOC for buildings above 15 m; parking floors inside the fire-tender path are not permitted. • Visitor parking is included within the percentage (HMDA guidance cites 22% incl. visitors for certain layouts).
